I want to start a motorbike tour company in South Thailand. How do I find customers?

I live in the South of Thailand (Trang province) near the islands, beaches, caves, waterfalls, temples, etc. etc. and I want to do motorbike tours. Trang is starting to open up to tourists, but its still a far cry from Phuket or Krabi. I want to do 3 to 8 day tours. Where and how do I find tourits that can book and pay a couple of weeks in advance?

Just like any company I would think you would need to advertise and publicize as much as possible. A website would be good, advertise on other Thai travel websites, print ads in adventure travel publications, try to connect with travel agents in Bangkok, maybe have brochures in hotels, pretty much anything you can think of to get the the word out about your company. One thing you need to be aware of though, if you don’t already know, is that unless you are a Thai national, Thai law strictly prohibits you from being a tour guide. You can own and run the company, but you cannot guide the tour.

What is the cheapest city in the US, to leave from to get to southeast Asia, Thailand?

I want to fly to thailand and I was wondering if tickets were cheaper if I leave from different cities in the US. From chicago I can get tickets around 1300-1500 but are they cheaper other places? Or would it be cheaper to buy a ticket to somewhere else, then a diff ticket to thailand? I guess I am just wondering the cheapest way to get there.

(Bonus: if it’s not actually Bangkok that you want to get to, you might be able to fly into another Thai destination using one of these carriers — many fly into place like Phuket, Surat Thani, and Chiang Mai.) It’ll be up to you to figure out what’s most cost-effective for you, and whether the hassle of changing carriers is worth the savings you might find.

Secondly, I’m fairly confident that you’re likely to find lower prices leaving from the West Coast of the U.S. — Los Angeles, San Francisco, or even Seattle. However, if you’re living in the Chicago area, you need to weigh up again whether it’s worth it to you to get yourself to the West Coast from there in order to catch a cheaper flight to Asia; I have a sneaking suspicion that you won’t actually be saving much.

Hope this gives you a little food for thought, if nothing else! Like I said, you need to weigh up whether the ease of getting a straightforward ticket from Chicago to Bangkok is more appealing to you than saving some money by making the trip a tad more convoluted.
